I picked AI in 2018, before it was the obvious thing to pick.

I started out in Shenzhen, at Fix4U, building the UI and running user testing for a local-services marketplace. After I got back to Israel, I chose to work at TechSee, among other options, because they dealt with AI computer vision. No LLMs yet, just models that had to look at a photo of someone’s router and work out what was wrong. I stayed seven and a half years.

01 — Strengths

What I’m actually good at

Taking a system that’s too complicated to use and making it feel obvious.

On Sophie AI, that meant watching people fail to frame a device on camera, too far, too close, wrong angle, and realizing the model wasn’t broken, the interface just never told them how to hold their phone. I drew the illustrations myself when stock photos looked muddy at that size.

How AI models are built and how they work is fascinating to me. The good part of this job is living in between, the system and the person reading it.

Off the clock

I build things at Midburn: physical, temporary, with my hands.

I’ve been following science since I was eighteen and never stopped. Physics mostly, quantum and astro, but also brain science, behavioural psychology and philosophy. Veritasium, World Science Festival, StarTalk, The Diary of a CEO. Same itch as the day job: something enormous and complicated that somebody has to make explicable.

Twenty minutes of meditation and yoga a day, which is probably why I’m calm about all of the above.
